Hi All,
Everyone has been really helpful on my first board, and i have found alot of good information on this site. My first board ended up being a 6'9" wide point forward, 4 +1 setup modeled off of some old single fins with a bunch of concave in the center, and a whole lotta of beginner screwup mixed in. It surfs well, so that has inspired me to go for board #2.
I weigh about 180 and am in good paddling shape( for the waves I like to surf). I would like to build a board for 3-5 ft hawaiian for gentler waves like around chuns and diamondhead. So not steep and pitchy, but not nice waikiki surf. My original intent was to buy one, but when i went to the store nothing really jumped out at me, and I am not a big fan of surfing boards that dont put enough foam under you. I am kinda lost in even starting because i have had boards recommend from 6'4" to 7'. For up to overhead, i have mainly been surfing 5'8"-5'10" hp fishlike board with quad setup. when it gets a bit bigger i need to move fast and chase waves, and i would like to get into the waves earlier.
The reason I ask here, is because I am interested in hearing from the experts and I would like to go with a proven shape for my size and wave type.
My original thoughts are a 6'6", 2 3/4", 19.5, wide point forward, really small squash tail, with single concave to flat tail with sharp edges and conservative rocker, but I would like to learn and I have a feeling a better board design is out there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and my standing offer is beer for shaping advice if you are on island.
cheers,
Jason
