A third surfer is found dead on a Cornish beach

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 07 January 2005: - - A surfer who gave up university to pursue his hobby as a career, has died on a beach in Cornwall. Charles Folkard, 21, is the third surfer to lose his life on Cornwall’s beaches in the past three weeks.

Mr Folkard, who lived in Newquay, went surfing on Wednesday afternoon off Towan Beach, Newquay. His body was discovered on another beach the next day. His parents, Tim Folkard, 54, and wife Sheila, 52, from Beeston, Notts, said their son “died doing what he loved most”.

Russell Shaw, 44, of Tresillian, died on Boxing Day while surfing at Godrevy. Eight days earlier Ian Watkins, 37, from Newquay, died after suffering a brain haemorrhage while surfing at a beach off the town.

I’m always saddend to hear of the loss of a surfer , even more so in home waters. Though I can not say I knew any of them personally, I surf those breaks regulaly so the chances are I have been in the water with them at some point, or passed them in a bar, words can’t really express how I

I’d just like to add that I’m sure those who lost thier lives would have gone that way (doing what they loved) if they had a choice and are now surfing perfect wave wave

I’m also sure that they were accomplished surfers who knew what they were doing, but with no Lifegaurd in the winter things can get out of hand very quickly, I anything can come from this it should, be for all surfers to learn CPR, and basic first aid and look out for thier brothers and sisters in the waves to help prevent similar tragidies happening in the future

You have my condolances

All of them - too young to die…very sad
