3D printing with cellulose (wood) becoming practical

Hi,

An article from physorg, discusses new methods to make environmentally friendly 3D printed parts from cellulose-like polymers.

Yes, eventually you could make a surfboard … but that’s not the point as its likely shaping and design will still matter.

"For centuries, cellulose has formed the basis of the world’s most abundantly printed-on material: paper. Now, thanks to new research at MIT, it may also become an abundant material to print with—potentially providing a renewable, biodegradable alternative to the polymers currently used in 3-D printing materials. Thanks.

V-thanks for the article. Are you involved with this technology? Its use for one-off medical tools, as described by the blue tweezers experiment, shows promise. As a DIY technology, the evaporating acetone carrier and sodium hydroxide (lye) post treatment would seem impractical for most.
