4 1/2" adjustable box fin

Does anyone know where I could buy one of these in composite? I need one to add to my center box so I can run my 2+1 as a standard tri / truster setup.

Are you looking for one local?  If not, why not just order one through True Ames?

Well I’m looking for a composite one to save a little dough. Those True Ames fiberglass ones are nice but kinda spendy.

check foam ez - they sell this insert that will let you run a long box with a standard fin - just get the insert and put a standard thruster fin in.

Don’t think that will work. The box starts at 5" up.I need the overhang to make it 3 1/2" up.

That’s cool - I only recently discovered such a thing exists - never saw one until that pic.

This is Swaylock’s! Make one!

You can buy a fin like that at Surf Supply in Oceanside, California. The fin says True Ames on the side so I’m sure any surf shop worth it’s salt can get one.

Try Basham’s in San Clemente or Fiberglass Hawaii , Greenlight , Foamez…ect…heck , call True Ames or Fibre Glas Fin Co… go direct…

But why do you want composite? Fiberglass fins are so much better!

I’m only thinking cost but are they actually lighter than composite, or do they just have better flex?

Yes!

If you want composite, I would just find a composite fin with the profile you want, cut the base and put the roll pin back in.

Here’s my setup. I can run it as a quad ,standard tri ,…single…, 2+1…well maybe ,and possibly a twin plus trailer.

I’m not good with fiberglass or I’d make it myself. Not good at carving foam either but this blue thing I made rides OK.

Thanks stingray.Probably just go with the true ames one.

Hi Ekim…I got an new a new computer…I’m not tech savy…I want to post a photo for you but it’s not working today…we’ll work on that…

Today I went to Surf Supply in Oceanside. I bought a Red 8.5 fin for a  Longboard project. I also bought a “Baby Fin” …My Baby Fin is 4 inches tall…Looks just like the fin you posted…You can buy a fin smaller and a fin taller…My Baby Fin is from Fibre Glas Fin Co…I’ve seen the fins before…Thank you for posting…you got me thinking …so I bought a fin…gotta go for it.

Look for fins from Fibre Glas Fin Co…ProBox Larry…top quality!

Thanks sting! As you can tell from my picture I just can’t make up my mind with the fin thing.

[/]+2 Stingray! I’m with you on fiberglass fins! I just bought a pair of Clyde Beatty keel fish fins that are off the hook!

That said, on my fishy board I got composites for only $18.00 and they are rock solid good old standard quad fins for futures boxes.I’ll try to find out where he gets them.

You can modify a regular thruster sized center fin with a jig saw and a drill and a sanding block to hang it off the end of the box.

Hammer out the roll pin, Use removed piece for template for drilling new hole.

The trick is not taking off more base height than you need to be able to slide it past the end of the box, without a large gap between overhang, and box.

My 7’2" - 7"6" speed eggs have the rear fin at about 4 1/4. That’s a thruster set up. I have been exploring other fin set ups like Ekim. I don’t have all the answers. If I use the 10" box and the baby fin… the center fin box  will be too far back for a 2+1 or single fin…I want to explore some options…but most boards that I see in the 7 foot range have the box at 5-6 inches from the tail for a single… I’m working on some basic stuff…but honestly,    I’m a glasser / repair guy with a reall job… too many ideas not enough time…

ha ha!           the next board will be a standard replacement of my 7’4"… and the next one will be a fin experiment.
