Anyone know if running a 6" flexipad, on a 41/2" angle grinder will work well, or we think it will just burn out the motor fast. Unrelated but could not figure out my old email, had to make a new account (too many poly fumes I guess). Thanks for the advice.
Angle grinders are 11,000 rpm or more.
The powerpads are rated at what 3500 rpm?
Do you have a router speed controller? I use one a lot with my angle grinders when foiling fins with flap sanders, or my belt sander, or my box fans, crock pot, or even my router.
This is the one I use:

Probably not very good for the motors though, but none seem worse for wear because of it.
Thanks for the variable speed reminder. Completely forgot the one I have is basic on off switch. Guess ill have to keep looking around cragislist for a variable speed or pull the trigger on that sander.
The Harbor Freight 7" variable speed sander/polisher is 30$US with the coupon and comes with a hard backer pad and some sanding disks. That’s cheaper than messing up a board or a good pad.
Wear eye protection and maybe a kevlar vest.
The RPMs on a grinder like that will destroy your pad. You’ll be picking up little pieces of foam all over your shop. Do as someone suggested; buy the Harbor Freight sander/polisher for $30 with the coupon.
