4 months to shape stepping into dark side

I have spent 4 months shaping this, in my head. I finally am free of this one.

I “retired” from the retail hustle bustle make what sells surf shop world.  I made a new board that was very different from anything I had made before. Took it to Ecuador in case it was a bust nobody would ever know. Rode it for awhile it was OK. Changed the 4 fins WOW, there it is. Good waves lots of time to surf other boards to use. Rode the new one the most. Got to know it really good. But the more I rode it the more it screamed at me “single fin”.

Shaped it over and over day after day ride after ride. Finally got my custom eps blanks from Ken and went to work on my new one fin surfboard.

Here it is so far. 8’ long 23" wide nice and thick the way I like em.  Went from 1 1/2 hours to 4 months to shape new slow speed record.

Finless? Is the stringer the fin?? Looks interesting ACE, love your shapes.

Are the tail concaves at an angle? ie does the water get directed to the corner of the square? or is that just the pic?

I have some fins from my arsenal in mind.

The “V” that went to far is exhaust.

Different rail shape, soft and wrappy until the final break away at the tail, almost like a little vee-bonzery kick at that release point. Slightest concave in the nose, with minimal natural rocker throughout, looks like it would ride as a displacement shape with a quick-turning kicker tail. (?)

Any chance of doing a rocker shot?

Thanks.

Real close. Flat nose panel NO concave.

I will add some rail rocker shots

I like it!

Howzit huck,I agree and like it too and as a single fin I think it will work really good. One thing I think is he could have left the rails a little soft in the tail area since one thing about single fin boards is you can have softer tail rails and they still work good. Aloha,Kokua

Thanks in advance for the rocker shot.

Wow, everyone’s posting at once.

Ace is on my short list of guys I'd like to have a board shaped by.

‘‘Ace is on my short list’’

At 6’3" tall I have never been on a short list.

This board is new territory for me. I have taken many of my multi fin boards and tested the hulls as single fins with pretty good results. But always went back to the multi fins.  This is the first " modern" board I have shaped with one fin in mind in a long time for myself.  I am going to expect a lot from it to call it a success.

I love it, that thing is sick! Still trying to figure it out, that would have taken me 2 years to shape haha!

Ditto, love his long shapes too. Gotta have that continuous curve.

More pics.

Nice…

The shaping room lighting really helps show the rails, and smoothly blended lines.

That’s a really neat combination of elements, it will be nice to see how it rides, please post.

Thanks again.

Back from the glasser into the water, 82 degree to 59 BRRRRR. Had some good things and some so so. Gonna be fun to see what I can get from this low performance can’t possibly be progresive too long too thick “surfboard”.  I am starting with this oldie but a goodie tip flexer fin. Well see where I end up. If you don’t try you will never know.

Yow, came out looking nice. There’s something about the overall shape that looks neo-classical.

Something tells me it will hesitate momentarily, then jump to speed and plane like crazy.

Be interesting to see how it turns.

“Something tells me it will hesitate momentarily”

Nope. One thing about single fins is the “drift drive” as you are catching waves.

Had some good moments and some mixed ones. Its gonna be all about the fin.

Thank you for that ace, very inspiring shape. With exhaust pipes like that it should go crazy. Thanks for sharing.
