4” wide, 6-oz Fiberglass Tape

Looking for 4” wide, 6-oz E-glass fiberglass tape. Anybody know of a supplier in the U.S.?

All I can find is 4” wide, 6-oz., Volan, Fiberglass Tape.

Volan is the sizing (finish) with Eglass fiber. Let a light green finish. For clear finish choose silane sizing.

I understand that it is the finish — gives the old coke bottle green color to the final glass job.

Seems like at least one old Sways member claimed Volan was harder to wet out. I don’t want something that is harder to wet out. I want easy to wet out.

Guess I should have said I am looking for 4” wide, 6-oz silane E-glass fiberglass tape. Can’t find a supplier on-line. None of the traditional suppliers seem to have it.

Yes it feel slightly harder to wet in fact resin seems to soak slightly slowly in fiber and fiber not disapeared in resin like “surf” fiber well saturated. First time you noticed it then you don’t care anymore.

I’m not concerned about the look.

But I need easy wet out.

I have not had wet-out issues with chromate/Volan treated tapes either.

Our fiberglass tape has a Silane finish. It has selvage edges which prevents unraveling. It is easily saturated with epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester resins. Great for smaller applications, seams, repair work or if you will be winding.

I found a supplier, West Marine, in Knoxville I believe.

They say they have 4”, 6-oz eglass tape for a reasonable price. The quantity I am buying will get me free shipping — making it very competitive.

I need to call and confirm it is silane.

EDIT: Looks like prices at your links are better than mine. I will have to check their shipping costs.

Yes I didn’t chime in fast enough, but there are a few suppliers for that item out there. I never carry plain fiberglass tape. Only the carbon striped stuff that is used on rails.
