What’s the story with the 9’0" ? Sunset board ? Beautiful boards.

…hello,

about the 5 6

is the WP in the middle or forward or seems that in the pict?

whats your opinion to use this type of outline more for projection than to do “small arcs” maneuvers?

thank you

Beautiful, as usual. All flat bottoms? And fin placement. From your posts and the audio off the web, I gather you place the fins as far out on the rail as possible? Can you talk about that? thanks.

Greg-

Great to see your post here on Sways! The boards look great as always! My five fin is still the goto board in my quiver.

-Steve Johnston

On my twins i use a pretty low rocker and get the realese from the loss of area from the template pulling in from center. The single fin on the rail gives a feeling of rocker and its low rocker measurement gives it glide and drive.

In the end of the board and fin design you get a board that flies on a single axis that can pivot in any direction with no resistance from another fin.

When done right it feels like controled flight.

The are flat in the shape but the rail laps make them slightly concave.

I put my fronts at 1 1/8 in

And the rears about 15/16" - 1" in

The narrowing tips allow these fins to roll into the turns even though they are close to the rail and you really only feel the bases close to the bottom feeling like part of the board and not some apendage below the board.

Steve and his brother were the first on the mainland to get my 5- fin fishes

They were brave souls stepping out of the box

Get me some of those movie boards Steve.

In the mid 90’s i did make a few 5-fin longboards for Bryson Martin who runs Marzocchi suspension in Valencia.

This board is a reorder of my rocket model i made for T&C about 5 years ago.

It’s a longboard with nose kick that will ride any size wave.

Greg,

Are you setting the rear quad fins more upright and with less toe than the front fins? I ask because this is the generalisation that comes through in the archives but you mentioned somewhere about the tendancy of there to be a ‘tension’ between the front and rear fins with quads (‘good for control’). Are you doing anything different given that your rear fins are nearer the rail than the front and your own template.

Thanks

Mark

Here is first day feedback on the 5’7" 4- fin fish

Hey Greg, thanks again for the board. The board is insane! Its even better

than I expected, but I had to end the session early because I hit the reef

with the fin and I lost it. Anyways, I took it out today at queens in about

2ft surf, catching waves with the longboarders. Its really fast and loose

but still really controlable. Im definately going to order another board

when I get some money. I was going to call you but i got home a little late.

I will give you a better review when I get some more time to get used to it

but as of right now, This is the best board that I have ever owned/ridden. I

let my buddy ride the board and he loved it. He didnt want to give it back.

Also, how do I go about getting a new fin? its the leading leftside fin. Let

me know if I have to send you the oposite side and how much for the fin. no

rush, I know your pre-occupied with family stuff. I will just use some

random fins for now. thanks again.

Thanks for the shots and explaining some of your fin placements. I have been inspired to put the 5 fin option on my last 2 boards and 5 has been the best combo yet.

thanks again

Wishing you and your family all the best

Christian

Hey greg thanks for the help on fin placement on previous quads ive shaped. I have a couple of questions, what is the fin place ment on the 5’7 quad fish, Toe in, Fin cant, fin placement. Also Heres a question about fin placement, What changes when you move your rear quad fin placement more towards the rail, verses the stringer. I see the stretch boards with the rear quads more toward the center, I thought the purpose for the quad was to create less drag and get rid of the center fin that is creating alot of the drag. Now wouldn’t the fin placement more towards the center of the board be creating more drag? Sorry if it sounds like im rambling so many questions and typing off the top of my head-thanks

A center fin does not drag as many say , its just not as active as a fin on the rail.

Fins only drag going straight to shore in surfing and thats not to often. They create and capture the energy of the wave the rest of the time and i think we should keep using them. Placing the fins off the rail would make it easier to press on the rail and possibly a smoother but not as electric of a ride.

would the rocket work in balsa?

Here is the board again and the customers first day review.

Greg :

You da man! Yesterday took board out to Browns with

3-4’ on the set waves. This board is SCARY!!! Can’t really tell you

how it turns yet cause it goes so freaking fast. I will send you a

more complete report later but gotta yell you yesterday was unreal - it

generated power through turns vs. slowing down or taking power away.

Stuck like glue to the face anywhere i wanted to be. Easily the

fastest board i’ve ever ridden. The feeling on a wave is unlimited

freedom - no limits - this board talks and it says : "go ahead, try

it". Yeah!

I am super stoked and very, very grateful. You Da Man!

Sincerely,

Jim
