50/50 pinched rails

I would like to know the difference between 50/50 pinched rails and 50/50 fuller rails. Thanks in advance.

I would like to know the difference between 50/50 pinched rails and 50/50 > fuller rails. Thanks in advance. 50/50 Rails are rails that have symetrical (fillets) curves top and bottom. Meaning that the turn down from the deck is approximately equal to the turn up from the bottom. You create 50/50 pinched rails by have larger radius curves (usually a thinner board) and 50/50 full rails have smaller radius curvesand more thickness typically.

Thanks Tom but what would be the main difference while riding them.

Thanks Tom but what would be the main difference while riding them. Fuller rails mean more bouyancy. You will need to put more force into your turns. But, you will also get more force out as long as you don’t loose your fin/s. Phil Edwards boards are good examples of 50/50 pinched. They are best surfed in a more pivotty style. But, you can get on rail easier and hold the fin in better due to less volume.

Thanks a lot!

To mine opinion the biggest advantage is in trimming the board and thin rails don’t always mean a thin board. If there’s is rol in the bottom and the deck the middle part can have some volume, it’s a good rail in combination with a displacement bottom. Peter Rijk
