After shaping and glassing for quite a while and spending lots of money on smaller quantities of fiberglass resin (pretty much on a per board basis), I’m starting to look into getting bigger ammounts to save money and time. I’ve noticed that surfsource, fiberglasssupply and other distributors sell 55 gal drums but none of them seem to be too specific on how they are shipped. Given the fact that they weigh 500lbs, which according to the pricing calculator on UPS.com is 350lbs over their weight limit, what service if any are they shipped through? Also what is the approximate cost of the shipping? Does a typical 20 dollar hazardous materials fee apply or does that ammount increase with the increased quantity of materials. Thanks for the help.
uhhh why dont you call the place and ask them these questions…
Call the distributer and they can probably give you heads up on shipping. You save a lot of money if you pick it up at the trucking terminal. RB
not only will you save money by buying in bolk, but you can also make a bad ass smoker grill out of the drum. once it empty and clean. all you need is a welder and some fence pipe. and a metal shoping cart. i built one for less then 40 dollars.
sorry i couldnt really answer your question.
yeah , nothing like the taste of char grilled resin dogs…yummm, pass the styrene please…
Fiberglass Hawaii sells drums also, and in some cases we drive them out to our customers. I think a drum of silmar is about $750. If you live in California in the viscinity of SC or SB then Fiberglass Hawaii may be an option as well.
