Finished my board yesterday and tried it out this morning. Have been shit out of luck with waves lately, but today got some clean chest to shoulder high fun ones this morning. Went very well, very happy with it, Stoked!!. The waves were steepish take offs, 50/50 closeouts, and i was surprised at how much the big keel locks in on backhand waves, i didn't miss one take off on it. Paddles quite well for a 5'8'' hehe, although its weird that my head is so close to the nose!. Once up, it seems fast and free, though i didn't get much time on the face. I ended up going no toe, 4deg cant ( inserts ), and the rear of the fin is 6 1/4'' from the tail.
Cant wait for summer!
Very happy, and im so glad i make my own boards, im not going back now i don't think!
beerfan, thats awesome mate, Im wrapped for you, I hope the one for fong comes out just as well. Mine should be glassed soon then a test report will go up..........
Ha, yeah pete, never thought i'd ever surf a 5'8'' no matter how wide or thick!. Dunno, i think i should have kept the little twin keel fish, she was a ripper. Could easily go a 5'11''x 21 1/2 x 3 fish, but so far, im very happy with the pacman thingy. Muchos fun!!
Cheers guys, i think my boardbuilding took a big step with this one. Still a few things i need to work on ( swallows are hard to glass perfectly!!! ), but im slowly getting better. Stoked!!
Nice board beerfan,it sounds like you had alot of fun building it too.I just finished a 5’5x23x3 with a 16" wide tail and had a blast building it,like you I felt like I actually new what I was doing instead of fucking up everything I touch ha!
Some fin options!. The red stars are very small, which will be fun for sliding!!, The rainbow ones i think will go well in slow weak waves, and the red probox ones will be good for decent hollow waves. All fun and games this summer!!!!
I may even get cocky and put some longboard side fins in for some almost finless fun. Probably make a fool of myself though hehe
Was expecting waist high mush, but found head high and some bigger, dead low tide shallow sand bank waves this morning. Stuffed a few take offs spectaculary ( yum sand for brekkie! ) but made most of them, still find it odd how good it handles the take offs on backhand. Though once up, i still have the same problem with backhand surfing on twin fins, just seem to stand there haha, i surf way better backhand on a single than a twin!?. Gave one lip a good smacking, but was too fast for me so ended up driven into the sand bank haha still, i had a ball. Cut backs really well, as long as a icalm down and don't force it, it just comes around nicely. Supposed to be the same tomorrow, will be leaving the midlength at home and taking just this board and my bat tail quad, which would have went insane today.
now , I eagerly await test ride reports on how those two "other" keels go eh ?! [hint hint] good to see that you still have them .
Do you know anyone with a video camera ...footage of them being surfed , please ?
I just wish I didn't live 3000 miles away , because if I was at rosco's or the gong , I could be out there with you doing the dawn patrol uncrowded sesh footage with my trusting fujifilm water camera / vid option !
