60's Board Glassing

So i have been doing some glass off surfboard restoration lately & have noticed that the cut line for the cutlaps are on the bottom of the board which is leaving me to assume that they were glassed deck first. Just wondering if this was the standard back then?

Yes. It was a holdover from the Balsa Era. This was carried into the foam era, until the stringers got so thin, that they would not hold the rocker, if the top were glassed first. That was when we switched to glassing the bottoms first. We, at SURF SYSTEMS, made that change in 1969, when stringers dropped down to 1/16th inch, and paper stringers, and ‘‘glue line stringers’’ were in vogue.
