I am looking at a 60’s glassed in fin Hobie 10 footer, in good shape, any info on what year the Dana point edition was made and what I should pay for it?
Thanks.
Peace

@ bmwgssurfer we have a few unrestored boards here but most need ALOT of work but feel free to come by and check it out if you want
hey Sammy, if you go to the surfing heritage foundation .com and click the box that says exhibits/collection then click on stoked n board, then click on brands from a to z and click on the G&S part of it it will show the lam, im sure there is lots of stuff on here that will spark some interest, and i wouldnt be supiresed if you could help out with the cause with all your knowledge of surfboards
Andy Anderson has put ALOT of work into doing this part of job and still has alot more to put up in this section, hopefully he will finish one day but how knows, its an insane amount of work
Why does the lam look likes it’s a triangle? I’ve never seen a G and S with a lam like that.
that is sexy…
Probably out of my price range, how much?
Got anything unrestored?
i only have one restored d fin right now that im thinking of selling to help pay for a trip to Costa Rica

i belive its from 1960, a good old G&S
I've got good quality name brand stuff. Mostly models like 50/50, Team Rider Hansens, Bing Lightweight Pintails, Jacobs, Sweets, Nolls, Surfboards Hawaii, Hobie Team Boards etc.
No popouts, no crap, no leakers, no bro deals at rock bottom prices...........look for ebay, or garage sales for that stuff.
I resto for the love and fame. I do it for the art....I am Restoman hear me roar
You might try SDrepairman. He does great work, and i think they have boards to sell....Hes a solid guy too.
What do you have? I would love a rideable restorable log with a d-fin.
btw, not a lot of cash to blow.
In the 1962 through 1965 time frame, ten foot boards were common as dirt. Many did not survive well, (pre leash), and many were cut down in the 1967 to 1970 period, as a response to the short board ''revolution.''
If it's actually 10 ft + then it is pretty rare, most old clunkers were from 8'6" to 9'10". I have only ran across a very few 10 ft + boards.
if the foam is sparky white, and there are maybe 1 or 2 dings, the fin isn't all ground down from being dragged. The laminates isn't all faded, not much to no stainined foam. then it's worth about the price of a new used classic style surfboard.....$500-$800.
You in the market? if you got cash I'll sell you one of those old classics.
Oh....and the basket cases I get and fix up...do restorations on.
I pay about $100-$125 max.
It seems you don’t know what a t-band is. They are not found “on the tail”. I can assure you of that.
First is the stringer or stringers waterlogged (real bad)If so it’ll nosedive on you and be twice as hard to turn. If so offer a hundred maybe. If it passes that test how many stringers does it have?(More the better) Does it have a T- band stringer on the tail (good), does it have a lot of dings(bad) Does it have original stripes(good) Does it have a finbox (good, ok that’s just my preference). Does it look regalassed with opage pigment (bad, it’ll be heavy) A comparatively light (for a Hobie) unwaterlogged Hobie from the sixties in good shape is unfortunately becoming a rare thing.
Thanks, mostly curious, have never sold a board yet, I adopt and ride them. Love the classic rides, just run into a lot of sellers who think their Velzy popout is worth thousands.
In the 1960's Hobie, Gorden and Smith, Hanson and a few others put out thousands of boards for the new "in sport" of surfing . Then there was emerging east coast market. Many were just standard shapes that shops used as rental boards. You can find prices from $200 to well over $1,000 some think they have found gold when they get an old pile of fiberglass crap. Is your Board rare? Who knows. Now if you said it was balsa wood Hobie You might be looking at a treasure.
Every Hobie built before 1965 had a glassed on fin. Many had the same thing well after 1965.
It has a glassed on fin having problems getting the pix up. I am seeing similar boards for 800 to 1000
No such thing.
Virtually every Hobie made for a good three decades or more had the words “Dana Point” in the lam.
Pictures of the board would help.
