I picked up this belly board from a swap meet about a year ago and was just curious if anyone can identify it or offer any information. It’s not critical I get a background on it, just curious to know since I plan on riding it occasionally and I just thought it would be fun to share.
Looks to me to be late 60’s maybe…it’s made of a hard plastic which when held up to the light looks like it may be foam injected? I can post up a few better pictures and dimesnsions later.
Got it at Kobey’s Swap Meet here in San Diego. The guy I bought it from said it was a Plastic Fantastic but I was pretty sure they never actually made any plastic boards. Here’s a picture of the deck. No visible markings anywhere, but I’m gonna pull the fin later and see if there’s anything there. BTW, the fin box is molded into the board itself, not a separate piece.

I’m amazed you’ve had it for a year and haven’t ridden it yet !
Sounds like you’ve learnt a bit about the board. My guess would be a Newport area pop-out. Lots of companies which are difficult to find much about. A search using the term "Dynamic Industires’ + surfboard just brings up junk.
If you were really keen there might be a way to search for records as to who owned the company. Someone on Swaylocks may have heard about them and Rod Rodgers may know some more but the blank spreadhseet may say it all.
As Surfoils said, you could always test how it rides. This may also tell you a bit about the company.
Thanks for all the info guys. Like I said before, I’m not hellbent on finding out every detail, just thought it would be cool to share. I know, I’ve been meaning to ride it and will report back after I do!
I’ve owned a couple of these in the past. I thought they were late sixties, but that would have to be verified by finding an ad in an old magazine. I think they were small ads. I vaugely remember it as being made in Los Angeles. I’ll look through surf patents to see if I can find the inventor. They were roto molded polyethylene…made inside a turning mold, and then injected with foam. Surviving specimens usually have heat damage…shrinkage and ripples. Yours might be in better shape, because of the light color. Does it have flecks of glitter in the PE plastic?
FWIW, somebody’s making foamy bodyboards (single fin, smaller than the one in your pic) present day. Saw a guy with a blue, foam bodyboard with a similar look the other day. I think the bottom might’ve been yellow. Not sure.
I bought one of these bellyboards at Jacks surf shop HB in 1968, same exact one. The fin box was similar to a waveset but a different size. Mine was an orange color like a 50/50 bar. I remember it had little flaws that looked like bee stings.
Thanks Bob and Rod for the old ad. It’s not a paipo…it’s a pipo. Well at least in Covina it was. And a removable skag…I’m guessing the option to go finless was a big selling point.
