6'8" egg

I’m building an egg for my cousin. He started out as a sponger and got pretty good, actually got a front page shot on the OC Register dropping at the wedge. He wanted to learn how to surf, so we went and got a 9’6" longboard. He rode it for a while but was having a hard time getting past the DK thing. He did pretty well, but had a hard time catching waves due to the large difference between body board and longboard. He borrowed another cousins 6’ quad and has been trying to ride that. He can catch waves, but it is way to squirrely for him, he can’t really do anything but trim on the longboard. He wants something that is more stable than the quad but is easier to turn than the longboard. I got a 6’10" A from US Blanks and have been playing around with BoardCad. Ignore the rocker stuff, I just tried to imitate the blank and I don’t have Boardcad down yet. Let me know what you think of the outline.

Can’t see it. Can you link a pdf ??. What are the dims, nose tail width etc??. I love my 6’10’’ egg, im 85kg 5’9’', and its 15 1/2 x 21 3/8 x 15 x 2 3/4. I ride beach breaks in oz. It goes very good, i prefer it as a twin at the moment, but it goes good as a single fin. Easy paddle ( especially if he’s already paddle fit ).

I wouldn’t mind a shorter wider thicker one, mines a bit more of a pulled in shape, but i love mine how it is.

Sorry, I don’t know how to make a PDF on BoardCad. The dims are:

6’9" N16 7/8" x 20 13/16" x T14 9/32" WP forward of center 21"

Ok, finally got a jpeg for your viewing pleasure.

Width will help stability.

I’d make the tail wider…easier paddle, easier catch, but that’s just me.

How much does he weigh?

Perhaps you could keep the curves the same and just increase the width to 22"

It will make a huge difference in reducing the learning curve.

200 lbs.

I don’t think wave catching is going to be a problem. He had a hard time catching waves with the longboard just because it’s a different mindset. He can catch waves and stand up on a shortboard, just can’t really get speed to make sections or do controlled turns.

arnt egg’s wide point at center

pull the nose in a tad, for me!

Give him a solid 22.5 - 23.5" wide platform to get learned on. 200 lbs = 22.5" funboard will be fun. Get the rockers right and put a single on it, and he WILL have fun, for a while, and then he’ll want to move down. Take the outline you have there and hit the SCALE BOARD button, input the dims for that shape. I speak from experience on the 200(+) lbs thing.

Got some shaping stands built and started making the template.

Dang…those are pics from my camera phone( and my cousin looking at the template and blank.)

Finally got back from vacation and got the outline cut.

Getting close to starting on the rails. the tail has been cut down to about 1" since this photo. It was from a fish blank, so I put a little kick in the bottom. I need to get better lighting.

Jeff with his board

nice outline!

what is the maximum cut height of your bandsaw?

I don’t know, I’ll check tomorrow.

afoaf. Forgot to check. I’ll go look now. 6 1/8"

Now for a try at some pics. Worked on the rails today.
