6'8"P vs. 6'9"A

I am planning on shaping a 6’4" to 6’6" fish, about 3" thick with a fairly flat deck. The natural rocker of the 6’8"P seems to be about what I want. However, if the deck is very crowned, I may not have enough foam. So that would mean I would use the 6’9"A. Can anyone tell me what the deck looks like on the 6’8"P? Fiberglass Hawaii did not have any 6’8"P’s to look at.

If you want the float of a 3" board, why would you crown the deck to thin the rails and take away the foam?

Make the deck flat, put some V in the bottom, and soften the edges of the rails.

The tail of the 6’9" blank is thick. Shaping it to a normal thickness will go too far into soft foam. The Pavel blank is designed a little thinner in the tail so you don’t have to go so deep.

The 6’9" will produce a great fish as well as many other types of boards with volume. The 6’8"P is a better choice for fish though.

LeeDD- I guess I wasn’t clear. I want a flat deck. The 6’8"P blank is only 3 1/4" thick. If the blank has too much crown built in, I can’t get a 3" thick board with a flat deck. Thanks for the suggestion to add some V and soften the edges of the rails.

Rob- I see what you mean about the tail thickness of the 6’9"A. That blank seems to have the thickness profile shifted more to the rear than the 6’8"P. I will order the Pavel blank. Thanks for your help.
