Heres a few pictures of the 7’0" that I just finished and surfed at 4ft Makaha. Special thanks to CMP for the blank. The first one is a side view of the rocker with my son in the car passed out, second was me with my eyes closed looking like a dork standing next to the board.
Started at like a 7’2" with a 3/8 stringer which was a beast to work with. I cut it down and retemplated the nose and tail, thinned it out from 2 5/8 and dropped the rails to 2 1/4 and left it boxy. A few minor rocker tweaks. I decided to go with smaller fins for this board, Eric Arakawa template with a 4 3/8 base set at 3 7/8 and 11 7/8, fins towed at 1 1/2 off the nose and 6 degrees of cant. Not alot of rocker, I ended up with 2 1/2 in the tail and 5 1/2 in the nose. Glassing was 4/4+tail patch on the deck and single 4 bottom It had a gun outline so the tail and hip area was pulled in quite a bit but it still rode quite well in smaller surf…surprisingly well actually. Did square turns off the bottom and really drove up the face. final weight was just under 7lbs.
On a side note if you live in the country and glass at night make sure you have screens on your door or your going to have insects commiting mass suicide into your hotcoat.
Jason is that one of CMPs home made 2lb EPS or one of the PB blanks the brought over or a machine PU?
Big stringer… Should be tough…
Since it’s EPS, did you catch any on the outside with the old guys or did you have to hang on the inside with the rest of the short board crew?
Classic HP rocker and glass job.
Do you consider it light or heavy?
Nice
Its a 2lb EPS
Ahh I Still had to sit just outside the shortboarders and 20 yards in from the guys on the 10 footers…you just cant compete with a 10ft board at Makaha.
I thought it was a little lighter than a similar pu/pe board with a similar stringer.
