'72- Nuuhiwa's Fish

I know he lurks from time to time… here at sways…

Just settin’ the record straight !

The whole idea of lurking is pretty funny…shhhhh! I’m lurkin here, I’m lurkin here! Who said that Dustin Hoffman? LOL.

Yeah Brom is a talent to be sure…those Ocean Kayaks are something. Hate to get run over by one of those.

There seems to be a real attraction to fish. I rode them for a brief time but when Jalama got big and that was the only board brought I’d end up in a cheater five survival stance turnig the thing on double overhead waves. Guess if you’re a 6 foot and under man (as Dora called himself) no problem.

Say HI to Steve for me IF AND WHEN you see him.

I think/remember of many great /waves/boards/rides in my life and his boards are “ALWAYS” at the Top in my best of best memories !

Jimmy Blears won the event and faced years of critisim for winning and is an unfortunate footnote in history because his victory was and is seen as undeserved. He surfed hard and won on the judges score cards and deserves to be remembered as a great competitor who surfed hard and beat the odds to become world champ.

Well, since it’s still available online, what the hell…here’s a 2002 account of the event…I thought I might have had a photo of the hanging board but I guess it didn’t go up in the story.
