7s superfish

Has anyone had a good experience on the 7s superfishs?

More Asian/China crap. Sellout $#t!

I had someone try to trade one in a few months back. I had a good experience telling him I wouldnt take that as a trade in and he needs to take it somewhere else.

No but I have had a great experience with a homemade 8’ Woody Fish:

Woody-------- Keyword;  "Homemade".    After the copy cats copy the originals;  We can copy the copies.

Ha! Well my attempt at sarcasm.

I can’t copy anything…I tried once or twice…was my first and second board. Fear I guess. Got over it and can say with 100% certainty that I don’t copy boards…unless their mine of course…I always just build what I want…I can’t even do that AKU thing…tried…cannot get it to the foam without changing it all!

What did Ambrose say…something like “draw out the curve that makes you smile”

Well I actually have one (6'8"XL); and the only reason I still have it is that it was a gift from someone that has passed away. I'm not sure if it is the outline or the step rails. …probably a combination of both. It's fast, but just doesn't handle like a fish for me. In my opinion, it's just a little odd for a fish. If your looking to buy one, or (hopefully since your here) looking for inspiration for your next board build, you might want to look at other boards.

I agree with Mcding on this one. Crap sold cheap. I can believe it doesn’t surf that good. It takes a understanding of design not just coping to create a surfboard that works.

Look to your local shaper not your $1 store.

Sorry to hear about your friend but I’m sure he would want you to progress to a new level of enlightenment.

To answer the original question. No, no good experience. Now if the real question is… does a large fish shape work? The answer is all over the place. I’ve been riding fish designs since the 70s and caught a ton of shit from my buddies for it. Note. NONE of them still surf! The board I posted is a testament of sorts that I like the design of a big fat fish for a big guy like me in small surf. If you are interested in the design go to a shaper and talk about it.  If your looking for an inexpensive board…go to a shaper…most shops and shapers have stuff on their racks that are trades etc…they will hook you up and earn your biz! If they don’t go to one that will.

ive had a ton of great experiences with those 7s surfboards

there always in my shop making me money for the repairs i have to do to them

I’m sure others will beg to differ, but super fish are great for paddle power and down the line speed but pretty average when it comes to top to bottom surfing. The super fish is not the most versatile design either, it’s hopeless in sucky beach breaks and not that helpful when the surf is well overhead. Add to that the fact it’s glass job may as well have been done with pantyhose and hair gel and you have a few reasons to avoid them. Check out the amazing boards on offer made locally, and choose the most versatile design you can for your ability and the waves you surf most often.

I just got a 6’8’’ SuperFish XL foam and fiberglass off the used rack the other week. I’ve surfed it a few times and I love how it performs. I’m a big boy, 6’1" 230 lbs., and this 6’8" 2 3/4" thick has me feeling like a 14-year-old again, riding my first 6’2" shortboard. I can’t say much about the materials yet, because I haven’t had it for that long, but the shape & the five-fin FCS box setup I think is gonna work out. I’m happy for what I paid for it… (edited for stupid comments)

You should reflect your comment to say.

It costs about 100.00 In Materials only to make a board…

The Mark Up is insane???

For 100.00 Do you expect the 5-7 people give or take to build your 100.00 board for free??

Yeah fuck them… They owe you a 100.00 shortboard, nevermind that they have been building boards for 20 years, for little pay because they love it

Your shaper friend shouldnt make his 100.00 cut to make your board, he will get the shop rent and pay for his food and family somewhere else.  he should probably get a job at Taco Bell too to  so he has an excuse not to charge you.

Yeah the laminator Fuck that guy.

The Hot Coater  Fuck That guy

The Fin guy… fuck that guy

The sander? Really fuck that guy he only has the hardest job in the equation

Did you want a gloss?

Fuck the gloss guy

oh and while we are at it Fuck the polisher too.

Yeah and your MC Escher handpainted both sides, I bet you only want to pay the guy maybe 25.00 when in any other industry that same art would be 500.00

Maybe you are niave and dont know exactly what all goes into your board and all the people that touch it and have families and whatnot.

You also note there are plenty of good local shapers in your area.

Even at 700.00 a handcrafted board built just for you. is a steal.

Your 500.00 local shaped boards are an even better deal.

Oh I forgot, lets add the local shop thats been supporting your city and scene for 40 years. Fuck those guys too.

I mean who are they for getting a cut? Some people… right???

Seriously… with this type of logic is why this industry is dying.

Thanks for being that guy!

Acgua Glass, you beat me to the punch here. Good response.

This guy obviously doesn’t have a clue about what he’s trying to say.

If he wants to feel like a fourteen year old again then he should hit up good ol’ DAD and go to a local shaper and get schooled.

Santacruz guy; If the markup is insane, why not go into business yourself? I’d love to see that and talk to you a year later. That is if you could even survive a year turning out 100 dollar boards. What is your time worth? Figure it out, or buy Chinese…

You’re right. I do regret saying the markup is insane. I don’t know why I said that. That is b.s. cuz I know there’s a lot of labor hours spent in making a board. Labor isn’t free and people need to make a living. I really just wanted to make a statement about the shape and performance of the 7S, not get into an arguement about the $$$/industry, because that’s another issue.

One thing I can say about 7s boards…When I see a person with one I’ve been given a few clues about the owner. None of them positive.

I wish I could get my material cost down to $100.  That’s half of what its currently costing me.

I was living in Galicia (Spain) for a year and couln’t bring a board with me so I had to buy one off the rack in a shop there. The only thing they had that was bigger than 6’2" and 2 1/4" thick was a 7S (PIECE OF SHIT) ‘superfish’ - It had far too little rocker for the tank that it was, it was just a bad design, maybe 6’8" tri fin (fish?) and flat with a parallel outline. In addition to being unhuman 3rd world slave labor SHIT it was just a bad design - dunno where they stole the design from or what but it was just BAD.

They can land boards made in youknowwhere for a little over $100. After they get keystoned two or three times the “consumer” sees them.

Right on Acqua!!
