so i’ve started my 2nd attempt at shaping, this one’s my first EPS/Epoxy job. it’s supposed to be mini-noserider pintail of sorts, in the vein of Tyler’s Mini-Zeke, and Balsa’s similar shapes. dimensions are: 8’6 x 18" x 23" x 16". it’ll be surfed in up to head high surf, mostly beach break and some point surf. east coast (New england) waves. looking to keep it so it will be great on turning and also able to walk a bit, with some cheater fives and a brief noseride here and there.
any tips welcome at this point. i’m interested in people’s thoughts in general, but specifically also about bottom, thickness, rocker and fin suggestions.
at this point i’ve planed the board down to just about 3" thickness, which i think may be a bit too hefty, especially for EPS. Any thoughts? it’s templated out and cut to outline, and i’ll be doing the rails this weekend. 50/50 all around. not too sure about the bottom yet, maybe try a hint of dish concave in the nose…to a round belly bottom.
well it’s been a month and i finally have a break from school and work and can glass this thing. i’m going for a green color…i bought some artist powdered pigment to use.
which is the best way to go: foam stain a la UncleD or spackle and then pigment the laminate?
i just want somewhat even color and no delam issues
i’m probably the slowest home-shaper in the world. it’s been a few months but i finally found the time to glass this beast. so far only the bottom is done. 6oz w/RR and a green pigment.
So, my glassing is improving, but I still have an issue with some spots apparently pooling with more resin than others. You can see it in these photos where the weave is visible in some spots and not in others. Any solution to this or should I just go ahead with the hotcoat? I’m thinking a cheater as this was gelling might have done the trick but it’s probably too late for that now.
