I saw what also looked like a scoop or step-down in volume at the nose, giving it that s-deck look, and a noserider concave nose with a bevelled (almost a chine) rail - pinched.  And Wow - 24" is wide for a 9 footer.  Some out of the ordinary stuff going on with this board.

If you knew the wave this is made for and that there is a whole pack of guys on 12’ plus boards there, THIS is a “shortboard”. Long rides with lots of dead spots so you need some carry thru to connect it all.  We wanted as much “area” as we could get in a 9’er. I have been using boards 23-1/2" to 23-3/4" wide in this type of outline and they work pretty good. I am tall and the guy I made this one for is also tall so they still fit under the arm to carry.

Oh I didn't have any doubt the shape worked good - I just like how you think outside the box and don't let the common mindset dictate design on your boards.  I'm not tall, I'd probably have to install one of those SUP handles to carry this board, but I bet I'd have fun surfing it!

There is a “box” ? Oh yeah that probably is that safe  make what sells to make money  even though you know you can make a better board this is what the shop wants “box”.  Was in that “box” for a long time. Now I make what works and am broke

Sheesh Huck - I've done quite a few boards that were wider than that and they weren't SUPs.  26", 27", 27 1/2" on longboards.... even 29" on a 6'3" bellyboard.  Get over it.

Oh yeah, installing a "recessed handle" (not a "SUP Handle" if it's not on a SUP?) is a piece of cake if your arms aren't long enough.  As easy as installing any fin box for sure.

Get over it?  I commended ACE for designing outside the box - so I guess I owe you some kudos too?  I think internet fame is going to your head LOL.

BTW, love to see some pics along with a post like that.  Lets see them wideboards!

Here ya go....

Steven Pirsch has some out of the box ideas on small wave design that will surely get some panties wadded up... 8'X 26" X 4"?  BIG WOW!

Bruce Jones and Mickey Munoz are but two others who recognize that longer lengths and wider widths = valid proportional curves.  Check their websites.

Oh yeah, Surfer Steve, he posts on here sometimes.  I think he's a good guy who likes to help people make their first surfboard, and has some ideas for beginners that are outside the box, you're right.  But I don't consider him in the same category as ACE.

I was just enumerating some of the other features of ACE's board that were notable for one reason or another, width being one.  In the future I will watch the use of the word "Wow", and try to limit it to more truly groundbreaking features.  =)

BTW, I like ACE's shapes.  I'm saving to get me one some day.

Damn, there’s alot going on in that shape. I love the Squish model & have drooled over the Squish album that ACE has online. I love making my own boards, but the next board I buy will be made by ACE and it will be a squish. But then again the Orphan is looking good too.
