9'5" bigwave fun-board ~How much Rocker?

Shapers please advise: Last time it was a midlength all-rounder that I got lots of advise on and it came out super at 7’9"x 19.75" – it looks like a weapon and surf’s like a dream. This time it’ll be 9’5"x13.5"x23.125"x15.125"x3.125". fin unlimited center with rail fin boxes. I want it to perform well and have good down line speed without being to stiff. a mixure of old and new ideas may be best but I very open to different ideas about how to approach the project. How much nose and tail rocker would you put in this board? How would you configure the rails and bottom? Some general impressions will be helpful I’m sure. It’ll be surfed at Central California point breaks. Mahalo, Rich

Rick, I put your outline on my program. It’s a little wide at the center to taper to such a narrow tail, so I widened the tail a tad to 13.8". I gave it 1" forward width offset for a smooth tail line and to add control on speedy turns. Tail rocker is the important rocker, and it works funny with big wave boards. A person would think flattening tail rocker would lower drag at high speed, but narrower tails already reduce rocker drag. I gave this board 3" of tail rocker with moderate progression, so you can drop/turn in pitching lips (late takeoffs). For bigger waves you’re looking for a rail without too much tuck lift. But this board is so long that you wouldn’t be in control of a sharp down rail. I made the lower midboard rail foam a .9" quarter cylinder, proportional to your 3 foam foil. I gave the upper rail a little fullness for paddling into the bigger rollers. Good luck. I have an 8’8" that’s 21.5’ wide with a 12.5" nose and 15" tail that is without doubt the best board I own. I want to scale this up some make it wide so I can compete with all those long boards but be able punch through the big stuff more easily and surf it from the tail and the middle of the board, which is the way I surf almost all the time anyway. Noodle, what kind of a program are you using? I have the abilaty to print full size (up to 10’) templates but I havn’t found a program that will actally plot a decent plan shape or rocker template. I would gladly print templates for people if I could get the right software. Any help or info would be appreciated.
