I was up In South Carolina and North Carolina for a couple of days. While there I went into a small surf Shop called Alley-oop. In Calabash NC. The shop is more a beach store then surf shop. Hanging form the ceiling were a few boards from The past a Yater Spoon in very poor condition a SNI Aipa sting not shaped by Apia or Takayama and couple of other boards. One really surprised me. It was a late 1960's or early 70's Carl Ekstrom. This might be the first Ekstrom I have ever seen outside of San Diego area. It was in pretty good condition with only one poorly repaired dig on a rail. A board hanging was one that was designed as a wake surfer. Here are some photos a bit blurry but you should get the idea. The owner of the shop didn't know what he had he just liked how they looked and would not sell. he said he had about 20 or so boards he has bought or were given to him over the years Most were found at estate sales or in back road yard sales or in old barns around the Carolina coast.
I wanted to get the Boards down to get a better look and to Photograph in sunlight for better quality pictures. The shop did not have a ladder. So there wasn't anyway to measure or take a look at the fin box. My guess would be around 7 foot or more. maybe 7'6"?
While the photos are not optimum quality or viewing angle, I would say that board is from 1969. It has all the earmarks of a transition board from that year. Do you know what length it is?
