a few fish questions anybody?

I will be ordering a fish soon probobly from Larry Mabile(a good friend knows him and he is a Skip Frye protege I heard) or Manuel Caro(he is local and his fishes look very nice on his web site) 1. What would be the correct length to order if I am 6’4"x210 and my all around short board is 6’8"x19.75"x2 5/8" and surf primarily Nor Cal?(I am thinking 6’0"ish.) 2. What would be the the best choice and difference between a quad, a twinser or standard twin. Technical definition and performance wise? (I am looking for fish performance oriented both backside and front.) 3. how do the wood fins perform as opposed to fiberglass or other materials? Thanks for the feedback, if any, it is much appreciated!!!

I would suggest e-mailing the shaper of your choice if at all possible. I would think he would be able to tell you best what size, fin configuration etc. would be best suited to you. So much depends on your age, physical condition, ability, etc. I’m a small guy, 5’5", 135 lbs. but a bit older, 49, so the fish that I’ve shaped for myself are 6’4", 20 1/2" wide, and about 2 3/8" thick. I’ve been using the thruster fin set up on mine and like that a lot, so I can’t comment on the twin, twinzer or quad. I know of a few locals here that like the quad. Personally I would’nt shape a board any shorter than my height, so in your case, 6’4" might be a good place to start, maybe 2 1/2" thick. I just got a 6’4" Lis fish (just last nite in fact), so I’m eager to get that in the water. It has the original wood keel fin set up, so its going to be interesting to see how that works.

Foamdust, what’s the dimensions on your lis fish? Nose & tail, tips of the tail, and overall width and thickness. I’m probably going to order a 6’4 from steve too. Does yours have a pulled in nose like a rocket fish or a full nose? Let us know how it works. Aloha

Hi Shaun, I recently ordered a 5’8 twin keel from Manuel…I’m 5’11 150. I’ve found my email exchanges with him to be very informative and helpful.

whoop, sorry, left-over picture from the bonzer thread.
