A MATTER OF CURIOSITY...................

What I’m curious about is if there is a domestic ‘‘surfing scene’’ in China?         After all, they probably make more surfboards than anyone else on the planet.      I’ve never bumped into any info on surfing there.         You heard anything?

Quite an interesting narrative.     Thanks for posting that up.

There is an island off the southern coast of China called Hainan , its semi tropical and has good surf , the Chinese government hoped to promote it as a surf destination but so far it does not seem to have taken off , as to domestic Chinese surfing , I don’t think there is a big surfing scene , a few years ago there was a group of Chinese surfers in Waikiki , they were paddling around at queens and I got talking to them , cos all the Chinese spoke english , anyhow they were telling me that they practice surfing at their local swimming pool , they don’t actually catch any waves but they do a lot of paddling up and down the pool  and practice duck diving and turning turtle , not to be cruel but they were fucking clueless and when a wave came they all panicked , but it was fun watching them and to their credit they did laugh at themselves . Information that I have from friends that have been to china say that possibly the scaryest thing about surfing in china is the water pollution .

   YIKES !

Remember once reading a story about how the Chinese government invited Peter Drouyn to check out the countries surf potential by taking him exploring in one of their navy boats.

The water is just like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, right?

accidently swallow a mouthful of that toxic river stew of heavy metals, pesticides, acids, etc, and it’s pau

wonder if Wingnut started glowing in the dark after those sessions…

Yeah looks kind of like surfing Pt Loma after a heavy rain fall.

My two nephews spent their formative years in Hong Kong. They learned to surf there. They also surfed Taiwan. Both were pretty young at the time but they did say the waves were much better then what they had been Surfing in Hong Kong. Before my one nephew passed away he had talked about going back and exploring The coast of China and Hainan Island. I understand that there are some Surfers from Australia that venture over there and the Chinese have a annual water water festivle and Surf Contest.
I have also heard rumors That Korea has started to embrace Surfing.
