Apologies this is a bit of a beg more than anything. I am a backyard shaper over in Christchurch, New Zealand. I decided to set up my bay up the hard way, buying a fantastic Bosch planer from Pete over there in Cali. So a transformer, american extension lead and a few cable ties later I was good to go. However I’m really struggling with my vacuum hose, I find them too stiff and the Bosch one Pete reccommended isn’t stocked in NZ. So you probably know where this is going, I would like a slinky hose, however Foam EZ seem to have a set shipping rate of about 100$ for a 1lb hose. If anybody would be willing to ship me a hose if I get it sent to you (especially helpful if you know cheap shipping companies) I would be forever in your debt and you would be welcome to come stay and enjoy some uncrowded kiwi waves.
If your dead set on a foam ez one you may try to call or email them. That seems a bit steep and it may be something their site does automatically. I wouldn’t see them attempting to cash in on shipping to you.
On a side note… You may find what you need from your local vaccine clear repair business. They often have extra slinky hoses off old vacuumes laying around they will give you or sell on the cheap.
Hi Sam, if the high price is something Foam EZ’s site does automatically, a US-to-NZ freight forwarding/re-shipping service might be a cheaper way to go (although they’re more about getting things shipped to you from a US business that refuses to ship it’s wares internationally).
I’d second WideAWAKE’s suggestion of trying your local vacuum cleaner repair business (I assume that’s what he mean’t -> a “vaccine clear repair business”? I think his auto-correct function may be having a bit of fun with him there).
Better yet, I’d visit your local tip/recycling center. Chances are there’d be a good selection of old vacuum cleaners there, many with busted motors, so taking an old hose off one of them should only cost you a few bucks at most (and even if it was in working order and they made you buy the entire vacuum cleaner, it still probably wouldn’t cost more than $20). What’s more you could pick it up today; way better than paying $100 plus whatever the item costs itself, and then waiting around for it to get shipped to you.
I find smaller diameter vacuum hose to be more flexable festoool /protool make anti static hoses which will help. the smaller hoses also have no issue collecting foam dust during ful depth passes.
