Im not a shaper but would like to have a dig sometime, not now though.
Im interested in what different shapers suggest or would ride themselves for a specialist board for indo like tubes.
It would be for waves like speedies at g-land, supersuck, padang sort of thing.
Forgive the long post please and i thank anyone with any advice.
Id the 5’ 10 to 6’6 range but i already have the 6’6 covered. Probably 6’0
I like paddle power, want a board maybe a little more bouyant than my 6’6x 19 x 2 3/8
My other fish is 5’10 x 21x 2 1/5 and dont want this middle range board to be any less bouyant.
The paddle power is good on my fish but could be better for bigger days and getting into it earlier.
Im 65kg 5’10 and paddle fit but like paddle power, getting into waves early not late.
(is there really much improvement in performance with a low bouyancy board??)
The board might even be a left only board for my forehand, OR might have a few differences for going right on my backhand.
A few maybes ive been thinking about-
-
narrower left side thinner tail for rights.More drive for rights
-
more toe in on fins for rights and carves on lefts.
-low rails
-lowish rocker, not too much tail rocker but medium entry rocker
-
2 pack epoxy with eps core??
-
outside fins forward a bit for carves on lefts.
-definitely get 4 or 6 channels.
-rounded pintail
i like semi wide fishes and flyer type twin keels so 19" would be a good width for easy transition imo.
I was riding a fish at speedies and a few other places last year and enjoyed it in the hollower stuff but feel it got a little hard to correct in the heavier tubes say 5ft plus speedies.
Once that bottom drops out its also hard to not run into the lip on a tacky line in the tube.
I like quads so think ill go down that path again.
Im not into smacking the lip, slides and all that new age stuff, just want this board to get me into the 4-8ft hollower takeoffs, and do some nice snaps, carves, floaters and good speed and control in the tube.
However unlike a lot of other shortbaorders, i take a bit longer to get used to new shapes and work them out… so it cant be too different to ride than my flyer twin keel that i ride most of the time.
Thanks again for any tips…
Ive been thinking about getting a Stretch F4 (5’11 x 19 3/4 x ??? but still not sure if the tufflite 2 would suit me and the USA ones are too pricey to import.
