AAARRRGGGHHH ZITS

So I have done prob 70 hotcoats or more and they have always turned out great but… I was putting a extra layer of glass on a friends board that was falling a part and glass job was perfect but I just hotcoated it and there are little pits in the hotcoat. It hasn’t dried yet but what would cause this I am glass three new boards soon and don’t want pits. Could it be it was too cold in my glass room. I am trying to get some insulation in there soon. I have always been proud of my hotcoats expecially since I am not a gifted sander but this just drives me nuts.

Zit's meaning fish eyes...........meaning the resin parts like the red sea no matter how many times you brush it out?

That my friend would be some form of contamination. Lotion on your hands, something on the paint brush?   Is it about where you handled the board...on the rails, etc?  Maybe something you preped the laps with?

Anyhow it will probably sand out when you sand that thick ol hotcoat.

Thanks Resinhead Yay I prob touched something. Its funny how you think you have got soemthing down and then this poop happens, LOL

If they are zits and not fisheyes then it is most likely to be dust in the pockets of the weave. When you sand them you will have thousands of tiny little pinholes in the hotcoat. Squeegee over a thin layer of hotcoat and it will fill them up without and much weight.

I always blow the weave off to make sure there is not dust left to contaminate the hotcoat.

I am pretty sure that what it is. I am in my new shop and havn’t got the comp lines done yet. I tried just using a brush. ohh well thats what I get for short cutting.

glue boy is correct !

also it could be the resin itself…lack of surfacing agent and/or lack of styrene will do this.

hot coat with lam…you’ll see what i mean.
