I did a search already on Sways and only found the sacred craft post… so don’t heckle me if I am reposting something!
Anyone get their hands on one of these?
Just curious of all the dedicated hand shapers out there, is the price tag $1250 something you would buy? I think it’s reasonable, but would love to hear some other’s thoughts, especially if you have handled one at all.
Perhaps a bit biased, but Jed Noll in San Clemente is the guy to talk to about those things; I have picked it up, but never used it, for I can’t seem to break away from my Skil’s, but if I was a new guy, and serious, I would covet one of those.
Here's mine # 11 JN2. Before the launch party last year, I talked in great length with Jed and Ben from Accurate and purchased the JN2. I own several Skils, Rockwells and Clark Hitachi's and always favored the skils. When I ran the JN2 for the first time I was amazed with the power of the motor and how well it felt in my hands, full speed wide open no problems. I've put a few miles on this planer between poly and eps, long and shortboards, the last pic was a custom block of eps 7' x 4 1/2" x 24" from Brian at Greenlight which I sculpted down with ease with the JN2. I call it a Skil on steroids, the more I use it the more I love it, I have the custom dust chute which works excellent and never clogs, Skil blades fit perfect so do Skil belts, one year warranty, great customer service. Is it worth the cost ? To me yes, all the money I spent on my other planers over the years I could of bought 2 of these. It's the only planer I use and hopefully the last I will have to buy.
Wow simply beautiful … everytime I see them makes me want to start putting away some coin for one… Hey Tom or anyone else who knows…couple questions from a backyard hack with delusions of grandeur.
When planing PU, how does the noise compare to the Clark Hitachi, and what about the size & heft compared to the Clark? I’m planing about 3-6 hours each month in a small room on the side of my house right next to my neighbors so the noise is something I have to be as considerate - careful about as possible.
What about a mod for the cord to follow up the chute for vac hose, and perhaps a male plug at the base for easy switching out the cord
It's bigger and heavier than the Hitachi, it's pretty much the same size and weight of the Skil 100. It's a little louder off the foam then the Hitachi but when you start planing the motor is so strong and fast it doesn't make the high pitch noise that the Hitachi does. My opininion, off the foam louder, on the foam quieter. As for the mods with the chord, there is nothing like that right now, but down the road you never know.
Hey cleanlines, while those are bitchen exaust flanges, you can build a similar one out of a empty 28 ounce can of beans, and you can make a perfect one for hose adapting, out of 16 ounce can. The only tools required are good shears, and some pliers, and a bit of ingenuity. Now how would I know that? Because I had to make do with the materials at hand.
Howzit Ghetto…yep I have made em out of cans, fiberglass and PVC. But I am a tool freak and will spend money on things that I like. There was this Hooker in Atlanta…ah never mind.
