Here’s a tip for getting resin off your skin. Don’t use acetone. Granted, the smart person wears gloves and resin doesn’t wind up on your hands, but there are those times when you wind up with a bit o mess on your skin. DO NOT use acetone. It goes right through your skin into your blood stream and it’s really bad for you. Small amounts may seem insignificant, but over time the cumulative effect is not good.
For my hands, and even brushes, I use Lestoil. Trying to clean a brush with acetone uses a lot and it’s wasteful, IMO. Dunk the brush in a small amount of acetone. Just enough to soak the bristles. Then, shake out the brush really well. Next, pour Lestoil directly on the brush and dunk it in hot water. Rinse, repeat. Resin on my fingers gets straight Lestoil + hot water. Scrub with a fingernail brush, rinse, repeat, finish with regular soap.
I assume you are talking about the Damascus Video that I did 8 years ago? I still use the three wash sytem. It conserves material and keeps down evaporation. I have never found a better way. I can make a gallon of solvent last for weeks. I use the same deal in my furniture restoration studio only it is denatured alchohol for shellac.
Always wear gloves and a mask. It’s all pretty simple and safe if you follow the basic safety rules.
