acid splash

I was hoping someone can answer my question . I just did a acid splash,it came out nice but I mixed the pigments so dark that I could not see the tapeline. Is there a special trick ? Should I have doubled up on the tapeline to make a higher ,more pronounced trimline ? Thanks Petey

shine a REALLY REALLY REALLY bright light…it’ll make the tapeline more visible.

Thanks for the reply-but the pigment was really really dark as to where I could not even see w/a bright light . any more suggestions? Thanks Petey

…use the same tool that you use for draw the line, do a new line then cut…

…but man, you need to cut until the resin get too much hard…

Howzit DSD, Did you shine the bright light from under the board, this is the same way you trim material inlays which are sometimes done with really dark material. Aloha,Kokua

I was able to cut the tapeline o.k - I had to really look to see where the ridge of the tapeline was. nothing like a 3/16 pinline to hide that mess up on the cut . Thanks Kokua for the wicked idea. I will try that next time. Petey

Howzit DSD, Did you use the light or just wing it. After you do a few pimented boards you will get the EYE for seeing the tape off. One of our Swaylocks bros posted a trick where he double tapes the rail so it’s easier to se the ridge.Aloha,Kokua

This doesn’t really help with the tape line quandary, we use a lap cutter that I made from aluminum square tubing, but I thought I would share how we find the stringer for cutting in the fin box if the resin work is really dark. I found out that if the light thing (from underneath the board) doesn’t work I take a paper towel or even better a wool towel and rub the tail of the board vigorously where you are going to put your fin box. Grap a hand full of foam dust or sanding dust off of the floor and lightly blow it across the tail of the board. The dust will stick mainly on the stringer outlining it so you can easily get your bearings. Basically a static electricity experiment from elementary school.

Howdy all. Yeah I just winged it best I can , I was kinda able to see where the small ridge of tape was. I think the idea of double tape is a good one. Thanks Austin and Kokua. Petey
