Acrylic Finish

Can an Acrylic Finish be added after you’ve used a board some ? I don’t think mine got the acrylic I asked for . It looked pretty dull when I got it and have had another sanded finish board before that looked the same . I also have 1 board that is supposto be acrylic which is shiny like gloss coat . Did they gloss it instead of acrylic or is that how acrylis looks? After reading about how sanded finish “Leaks” I would like to put an acrylis finish on this (New?) board I have . Can you do that after it’s been waxed? Maybe this is a dumb question but someone once told me the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask… Thanks .hope someone can help…

Yes you can, but strip the was and wipe with acetone. If you want some added shine re-sand with 400 then 600 grit for a near gloss look.

do not strip with acetone- the acrylic that may be on the board will turn rubbery and ypu will have a bigger mess than when you started- just sand lightly with 150 grit and wipe on new acrylic;scuff with scotch-brite in between coats until you get a desired finished look.

Howzit Kook, I wouldn’t worry about the deck area, just the rails and bottom. Just clean real good and apply acrylic. I ordered some acrylic thinner with my last F.H. order, after appling 3 coats it can be buffed to a shine that also protects. Aloha, Kokua
