Moai, I can give you some reasons not to use acrylic lacquer on foam: I tried it on someone else’s recommendation, and had constant problems with the resin not bonding to the paint. On one board, I spent many hours doing a board to look like a Santa Fe Super Chief train engine. Right after I wet it out with lam resin it looked great, but when I came back after it gelled, there were bubble delams everywhere. I ended up hotcoating it and repainting it all again on the hotcoat before I glossed it. VERY frustrating.
After that episode, I decided to switch to water-based acrylics. Since then, no problems. Doug
I have used acrylic lacquer straight on the foam and haven’t had any problems. Mind you, I only do solid colors, and I seal it with a thin layer of lam resin off a paint roller. seals the paint and avoids to much resin drawing into the foam when doing your deck lam.
