acryllic paint on epoxy

hello all, i made the mistake of not researching before i did some artwork on my latest board.

i drew some designs on the foam with a sharpie pen. i also drew on rice paper and laminated it under the glass. when i did the lam coat the ink smeared all over the place.

now i want to fix it by painting the smudges white with acryllic paint to hide them a bit. i’ll do this before i do my sand coats/ hot coats. i’m using rr epoxy and a p/u blank.

will the paint react badly when i lay down my resin on top of it?

thanks, nicholas

Why not fill coat, sand as normal, then do your artwork and seal with clear coat? If you fill coat over your cover paint, you’re liable to sand off the paint.

You’ll might want to bump up the acrylic in the paint by adding some straight acrylic. Check the archives…

Howzit nicolas, The sharpie pen you used was alcohol based and that’s why it bled. always use water based ink pens or india ink, these won’t bleed. Sharpie also makes water based ink pens. Aloha,Kokua

Thanks for that info Kokua. On my last board I used “Sharpies” and “vis a vis” (water based). I thought it was the vis a vis that was bleeding so I’ve been using the sharpie for all my templating this new board. Wrong move I guess.

thanks all, anymore input on using acrylic paint on top of the lam coat, and then hotcoating over it?

dunno if this is the go or not but i found that if i went over my artwork lightly with 500 grit

the gloss went on better

just my findings but i could be tripping
