My green tint in my bottom lam. coat has turned out streaky with blobs of pigment in it. Can I spray acylic paint on the sanded hotcoat and gloss over it? The paint is water based, not the dearer automotive stuff, so how do I tape the rails without pulling the paint off? which happened once before on a foam spray job? Thanx mates.
Barge, You can spray waterbased acrylic on the hot coat and gloss over it, but be sure to use flat paint. Glossy paint will cause the resin to do maddening things, like thin out in funny patterns. If all you have is gloss paint, then you need to sand it lightly to rough up the paint surface. Go easy on every step. All the layers you will be dealing with will be extremely thin and subject to sand-through. I’m not sure what the problem is that you’re having with the tape, unless you mean taping directly on the paint. Herb suggests using Future Floor Finish as a thinner in the paint to stop the tear up. Or you can spray a light clear coat of acrylic over the paint before you tape. Then when you tape over it, the new paint is stablized. Doug
