Add vee after glassing?

This isn’t a new topic but the one before discussed adding concave which I think is a little bit more difficult.

I have a mini simmons here lacking any vee in the tail. It just needs 2-3mm of glass to add some vee.
Weight isn’t an issue as it’s already heavy.

I’m thinking to mix way more than the normal micro balloons mixture and go straight on top since I want to keep it simple. I don’t really want to have to do anything definitely destructive first…
I would then slowly build up layers

My most hated part of the surfboard building process is sanding the laps because that is the only point where you’re really sanding down fiberglass.  Your project is making me itch just thinking about it.

How much do you like this board the way it is?  If you like it, build another.  Mini-Simmons are not exactly the most difficult boards to shape.

Good luck.

I’d want to add a bit of glass more than remove. Hmm, still risky on the sand, I see.
Yeah, it’s a travel board and I can’t figure out how to get a finish as good as the one done for me. I don’t know how to get the carbon fibre rods to fit so exactly and how to create a screw thread in glass.
I’m still going to try with a wooden board but then the fit becomes even more difficult

So… Easiest thing seemed to add a bit of glass at the back
Other than this…
I guess I could fit an fps plug and attempt to make something super flat that goes into that…

Ah OK, travel board.  Tough to recreate.  In that case I’d add stagered patches symetrically starting from the center line out to the rail.  One layer of 6E to the rail, second layer of 6E 2/3 the way to the rail, third layer of 6E 1/3 the way to the rail, and finally a strrip 1" or 2.5 cm on either side of the center line.  I think that should provide about 2-3mm of added vee.  Of course, all patches don’t end at the same spot going forward.  Stagger those also.  The vee has to fade in from about 1/3 from the tail to the tail.  After all that itchy sanding is complete, you’ll need to hot coat and possibly gloss coat.

Good luck and this actually sounds interesting (and itchy).

I’d probably put in 1 or 2 fcs plugs and use as small as a fin as I could get/make.

Edit: Or what if you used fin rope/roving?

V is not something you can just ad onto the board it is a interracial part of the bottom and rocker contours Planned and designed from The beginning. a mini Simmons isa very flat rocker board adding a V would be like placing a long ineffective keel on the board more weight and a weird keel will not improve the ride. If you are still thinking of doing this V . Get et a thin 1/4 sheet of foam. glue it to the bottom of the board after you have sanded down a lot of glass from the bottom. Shape the V into the foam to desired shape, then glass with maybe 4oz cloth.

yes artz provides the best answer

I know Derek Hynd and Ryan Burch are both users of Bondo type goo for quick and dirty bottom alterations.

Your original idea will work fine. Not pretty but it will work.

Not every board needs to be a work of art.
