I’m looking to start a hollow wood board for my wife as a surprise (boy, will she be surprised - hopefully in a good way!) I had started one but yesterday she was saying how she wants something around 8’ 6". I had a check of my saved templates this morning and I do have one that size but there are only half a dozen slices, presumably made by someone for a foam build.
For a hollow wood, I need quite a few more slices in there for support. Is there a sensible way to make more slices without paid for akushaper? For my build needs (possibly the last I’ll make), it doesn’t necessarily seem worth paying for it. I’m wondering if I can make the frame that I have, add the deck then make and add extra slices to fit in the needed spots later?
An alternative option is intermediate ribs.
This board has no resin or glass, oiled with orange tung oil.
I decided I wanted to make the deck nice and strong especially around the knees and feet area.
You can see the intermediate supports between the ribs with the holes.
The intermediate supports are like a curved wooden coat hanger.
Ribs are 6’’ apart.
Also note the nose to tail strips notched into the ribs, adds very little weight but gives lots off support and strength.
Search on the aku shaper Facebook group the new hollow surfboard maker script, make your brd file on Boardcad with the additional slices. Hope ir works.
