adding paint to spackle

i know some of you have added paint to your spackle for a quick and easy way to color boards and seal at the same time. what type of paint is used and what’s the paint to spackle ratio?

can anyone post a pic of a board that used this method?

Seems to me you wouldn’t get an even color… places where the spackle is thin would be lighter than were the spackle is thicker, like in the little divits and scratches.

Spackle, then paint.

for EPS i’d use the Harbour shell 2 method, or Herb’s future method for colorizations of blank machinations. combat proven

Kirk:

You may be thinking of pigmented epoxy with cabosil when filling or bogging an EPS blank. I don’t use spackle on my EPS but I’ve done some boards with panels of pigmented filler. Do a search for some of Leslie/Fatty Fiberglass posts, she was one of the first to detail and post pics of some of her work with this technique. Good luck.

I took Drewtang’s advice and added white Liquitex acrylic paint to my spackle. Works great. As for other colors, I think NJ_surf has it right, you’d get uneven cover since your spackle needs to be applied in as thin a layer as possible.
