Adding weight to a composite LB

What is a typical weight for a traditional 10 foot noserider log? I’m thinking 30-35 lbs.

I’m building a composite, eps with balsa rails and veneers. 4 oz under, double 6 deck and single 6 bottom. It is 9’8" x 23" hot coated and fin box installed. It’s weighing in at 18 lbs currently before sanding, gloss and polish.

i am considering adding another layer of glass to add some more weight but I’m concerned it might get too stiff.

For a 10’ 0’’ x 22’’ board, a weight range of 30 pounds  plus or minus 2 pounds, would describe 95% of those period boards.

my longboards typically weigh in the 20 lb range - i think you’ll be fine.

Pretty hard to dupilcate the feel of old longboards because of the core weight. If you are using lightweight foam cores u might as well just consider it a modern board.

Vintage longboards had a heavier density foam. I think US blanks makes foam something like this.

Adding weight to the skin defeats the purpose. Vintage longboards usaully had heavy foam, and ten ounce volan glass. I don’t think flex was a big factor.

Good point.

I could see using the US Blanks “Classic Foam” as a core for something like this.  (the heavier foam you refer to, 30% heavier than the baseline

“blue” density blanks).

I bought a classic density blank awhile back, from Florian at Shapers Supply in Santa Monica.  He said he had never sold one before.  Hah!
