Advice on Andreini Vaquero

I’d like to get some thoughts from the Swaylock’s braintrust on Marc Andreini’s Vaqueros boards, specifically on length.

I’m 5’10", 170 pounds and have been riding a 5’10" quad fish for the past few years in NorCal beach breaks (primarily) and point breaks (occasionally), usually head high and under. The 7’3" pintail mini-gun comes out for bigger, more serious surf (e.g., overhead OB). What I’ve come to really love about the fish is the speed, glide, long arcing turns, bouncing off the white water, you know what I’m talking about.

Now I’m looking at adding a Vaquero to the mix, but am wondering what the ideal length and fin set up would be. I think I’d like it on the shorter end (6’-ish), but am unsure since I haven’t had much experience with this shape. I know everyone is different and there are a million variables at work here, but are there any magic lengths I should consider? This will be a day to day board for average to good head high and under surf.

Any other advice, thoughts, caveats much appreciated!

Thanks,

m.

I’m surprised no one’s said this yet - but - I would recommend reading the “Post Your Hull pictures Second Thread”

down the list aways in the General Discussion.

39 pages - there might be a nugget or 2 in there (kidding) - It’s a great read. And pictures too!!

Too bad the original thread isn’t available as a companion piece - just leave out the ending.

Searching here and there and reading those suggested threads would be good. Also try:

But even better to ask Marc himself.

My 8' works super well in any conditions I have comfort in. From tiny longboard waves to beachies to a bit more serious waves. Get in touch with Marc I am sure he could make you something you will enjoy. PM me if you need his email or phone. arc,
