Advice: Want to shape a fin for my 5,9 single

Hey guys,

just arrived at home after traveling the southern hemisphere.

I’m back to shitty waves again. Doesn’t mean I can’t wait to jump into the water though.

So I got this 5,9 single fin with the option to ride it as a thruster as well.

The waves I will surf from now on will be small and mostly it will be windswell.

So surfing this board as a single fin would be a lot harder to get around sections. In terms of generating speed I’d favor the thruster in those conditions.

The size is: 5,9"x 19" 3/4x 2 1/2

What would you recommend? I’d love to go for a middle fin and even smaller sidebites + having a full set for a thruster would be fun as well.

I have heaps of wood at home, which I could use up.

What would happen if I put in a small single and some twin keel on the side?

Thank you guys.

Can’t wait to get started again.

Good news is the center box is adjustable. Try a 7.5  (or even smaller)center fin with widowmaker side bites. Try moving the center fin around to get the sweet spot then move to different configurations. Mark the box where you want to keep the fin so you can go back and forth. This will take some time until you get consistant good swells.

I agree. I’d go with a 7-7.5" Greenough 4a or a Skip Frye with some mini sidebites.

I’d go with a relatively upright fin with limited flex like a Brewer or Parish template, and then add regular sized sidebites to that.  Bonzer fin could work, too.

Agree Gdad. I’d go with a stiffie too.(Skeg that is.)
