air brush paint

does anyone see any structural problems with applying air brush paint after lam and before hot coat and gloss coat. I am gonna seal it with clear krylon gloss before I hotcoat.

no krylon,

bad for glassing ,it is.

painting the lam will show everything.

herb

What do you mean by "show everything". how is krylon bad for glassing, cause don't you seal foam airbrush with it?

Howzit astevens, Herb knows what he is talking about. The only time I ever use Krylon over paint is if I am doing side by side colors that touch. Krylon makes your resin weird to glass ( hard to explain in words) and when you glass a board that has Krylon over the paint you can feel the difference. If your paint has been thinned with the correct amout of water and water bsed acrylic you don't need to spray anything over the paint job.I think the shows everything means that for one thing you can't get a nice clean edge because of he weave texture of the fiberglass. Paint on the foam or the sanded hotcoatbt not the fiberglass. There are those that do spray krylon over their paint designs and swear by it but to each his own. Aloha,Kokua

Thanks. These would be colors that touch(green and blue). what do you mean by glass weird, I have done it before, but if it screws things up, I will stop using this technique

Even if everything goes good when you hotcoat, there a really good chance that you will burn into the paint job when you sand the hotcoat- specially on the rails and laps.

Krylon makes a Water Based Latex spary paint (h20). you would want to do it over the foam though. IvI tried over the lam it looked bad like herb said since it shows everything.

Ive done a few eps/epoxy and had no problems. I dont go heavy though. h20 is hard to find but brian @ Greenlight sells them.

no,

i mix future floor polish in with my paint, and or seal it with the same.

or that stuff from fiberglass supply…i believe it’s called acrylic thinner.

kokua knows that product much better than i do.

krylon(krylon has petro-chemicals that are distructive to polyester resin) causes fish eyes, uneven curing, micro, and macro air bubbles, which creates a softer glass job, eventually leading to premature delams.

Thanks for the help everyone. Thanks herb for your advice and description of why not to use krylon for this.

Peace, astevens
