I am air brushing my shaped blank using acrylic paint thinned with Future floor polish. I am wanting to do several light coats and was wondering how long I should wait between coats. Air temp is around 75 degrees. Also, are there any tricks to setting Futures fin boxes using epoxy. Should I mix just enough, say 3 oz., for the boxes? I read somewhere that the heat caused by the epoxy could cause the foam around the boxes to melt!!! Yikes! What can I do to dodge that bullet? I’m using Clark foam and Fiberglass Hawaii 2:1 Epoxy. Thanks for any help.
Howzit richard, Your paint has to be completely dry before doing the nextcoat or you trap moisture between the coats which will result in the dreaded crystallation when you lam it. The heat from the kicking resin sucks the moisture up to the surface and that's the cause. Reread the post about the fin box and epoxy. Greg says that the epoxy sat in the bucket after mixing and that was what caused that problem. Aloha,Kokua
Depending on the weather I just wait until to top is dry to touch, I never thin with water anymore.
I don’t think you are going to have a problem with Futures. That warning is for larger volumes of epoxy in confined spaces like an FCS plug. I’ve never had any problems with EPS/epoxy even with FCS. You could always just use one on a test piece of foam if you want to test it first.
