What is the preference for airbrush artists , fillercoat spray or straight on the foam ?
Hi Kayu-
90% of all spray jobs go directly on the foam. Spraying on the Filler Coat has a bit of different look (brighter/crisper) and presents some additional glassing steps.
Hope this helps?
Best of luck.
Brad
Lots of people dpray on the filler coat. I especially see it done by people that want to customize their own boards or to give an old board a newer look. However to be resistent it needs to be sealed over with acrylic or some kind of clear coat. From my experience from boards that I have repaired with paintwork on the filler coat, with time the paint usually gets scrarched in places (including from scraping off old wax)and it can end up looking a bit rough compared to paint directly on the foam. I agree initially spraying on the hotcoat looks sharper and crisper.
…airbrush is always on the foam; if you do it on the hot coat, you cannot obtain deep perfect colors.
The richness (or not if the technique is not good) of the colors are enhanced with the lanination; also protected.
You cannot obtain a good gloss coat if you airbrush all the board on the hot coat.
Of course you can do whatever and spray a clear on top etc; but I am talking about a good work procedure.
…thank you !
