Has anyone tried using airbrushing as a substitute for spackle? If so, how well did it work.
Sprays don’t penetrate into the “pores” of the EPS, the mist of spray just goes onto the outside of the beads.
Sealing is about filling the gaps between the foam beads, and spray paint doesn’t go into the gaps.
If you brush it on, then mechanical action forces the stuff into the pores.
But paint is way heavier than spackle, so it’s best to stick with spackle, thinned with water or denatured alcohol so it goes on really thin.
Qcell and epoxy works, but to get it light enough, you need to mix in so much qcell, that the consistency is very thick, and really hard to apply.
BUT, heres my trick - mix in heaps of qcell, make it really thick, then thin the whole lot out with denatured alcohol, so it’s thin again!
This lets you spread it around really thinly, and the alcohol evaporates away, leaving lightweight evenly spread filler.
Awesome.
Oh yeah, don’t thin it with acetone oy xylene, cos you’ll have an EPS marshmellow on your hands!
Kit
good trick with the alcohol. here’s another trick:
spread Q-cel powder with a spreader. Powder, NO epoxy.
tap the blank to get the powder down into the voids.
Then spread the slurry of Q and Epoxy, quick-on, quick-off.
No time to fall in too far. I bet the alcohol mix would do
well here too!!!
Try this boys,
Future floor sealer mixed w/ whatever you think will work best for you as a filler, eg. Qcell, spackle etc…Thin again w/ DNA …Spread and even it out. Now it waterproof and ready for paint.
I rarely use h2o anymore…if I’m in a hurry, I spead a hi-pro pre-mixed spackle on lightly, sand even and shoot a couple three coats of Future over the filler.
