Airbrushing

To compare notes on airbrushing … I’ve just started airbrushing … and I’m wondering if other people are also using the regular water-based airbrush colors that I’m using. Also are you doing direct on the foam, between layers of glass, or on top of sanded hotcoat? If on top of sanded hotcoat, what are you putting over it to keep it safe?

It seems to me that epoxy doesn’t like being brushed over top of this paint. Is there a secret to getting an epoxy gloss coat to lay down good over this paint?

I spray over the sanded hotcoat, as I am still new, and can erase mistakes by sanding. I use craft acrylics thinned with Future. FolkArt, DecoArt, Delta, the ones in the little 2 oz plastic jars. I gloss with epoxy, to protect the paint. I have never had a problem brushing on an epoxy gloss coat on top of these paints (but I’ve only done 3 so far this way). If you do, I’d recommend sealing the paint with a layer of future or another clear spray acrylic (Krylon Crystal Clear, Aervoe Acrylic, etc).

Walmart paint works great!. Go the paint section get whatever color you want mixed, 1. make sure the paint is a FLAT INTERIOR latex paint. Thin out the paint with futures and your good as gold. Also it’s cheaper than buying the so called surfboard acrylic paint. You can buy the mixed paint for like 5 dollars a quart, and the colors are endless.-josh
