Airplane Wing Build Thread!!!

I have a few questions involving rocker and thickness flow while I’m In the grey zone. I hope the final product will be a cruizer/noserider that I’ll like. I’ve never been on a filpped tail noserider and either take big long steps to the nose or shuffle when the rare instance that i do attempt a noseride so I’m not really all that stylish. Yet, I’m able to do some decent rail turns when presented with the chance.  I’m hoping for a more inbetweener noserider if that makes any sense. Having no reference point I come to the fine lady, gentlemen and those few that are somewhere in between. I’ll present the numbers I have and in return I hope for some suggestions.

Length 9’10

Width   C 23  N… T… At a later date

Rocker N 3 3/4

             T 3 1/4

I forgot to say that

Current thickness  is blank    C 3 1/2  N 2 1/4   T 2 1/4

Intended thickness is with glass C 3 1/4 N 1 3/4  T 1 3/4 so I will allow an eigth for glass. Is this OK??

That’s a nice board but that’s not what I’m after. I should have said that I’m kind of looking for a noserider that’s able to cruise a bit. Not a full on noserider but one with training wheels or maybe just a noserider if that is what the numbers I posted up would best make. Since I’ve already cut out my outline and trued the edges I’m looking to get the best out of the blank with the numbers and outline I already posted.

Sorry, I was thinking cruise (glide), so posted the pic and the link regarding gliders.  I'm not a noserider longboarder, but the noseriders I see tend to have a concave in the nose for lift, and a little kick or bit of increased rocker in the tail.  Maybe even a bit of "belly" in the bottom toward the tail, and soft rails in the tail, to keep the tail down while riding the nose.

Seems to me there have been some good threads on the subject in the past, here's a link to several you may find interesting http://www.swaylocks.com/cgi/search.cgi?searchString=noserider&db=forums&Submit=Go

Meanwhile, I'll add "noserider" to the title, maybe that'll catch the eye of the noserider aficionados. (edited to add: hah - someone didn't like it there, apparently...its gone!  oh well, wasn't a big deal one way or the other, just trying to get some of the noserider guys' attention)

The outline is looking good!

I like the outline, with the exception of the nose shape.     Given the board size, I’d suggest lowering the nose rocker to match the tail rocker.    You would then have classic natural rocker.     IMO, the nose width should not exceed 17.5 inches.     That is plenty of nose, for the occassional visit there.    You still have enough foam in the blank to tweek the rocker some.     Nice job so far.

I appreciate the feedback Mr. Thrailkill. I also think the nose looks a bit too bulbous for my taste but I may just cut my losses with that one…I’m not sure though.  I 'll work on the rocker tonight.

I’ve got the rocker about 95% and the  thickness flow about 90% of what I want. I’ll get to the bottom and rail tuck tomorrow or the next day. Thinking about putting a belly roll through the whole board. You can see my crappy scrubbing with the planer too.

Finished shaping it and am in the process of laminating it. I get really nervous before laminating so I drank a beer beforehand. I think it worked!

Yesterday’s lam above 2x6oz on the deck and 8 oz volan on the bottom. Today’s hotcoat below. No leash plug. Don’t worry folks after it gets finished there will be 67 more photos of the board at different times of the day and night showing how different angles of sunlight and the phases of the moon illuminate it.

Not without issues. The bottom was 8 oz volan and I forgot to do a fill coat when I laminated it. Also It was about 50 degrees which made it take about 12 hours to kick. A real pain in the ass when you are doing cut laps. The rest of the board came out ok to good besides the paint from the plastic bag I used to cover my racks that transferred to my board. that Sanded to 600 and polished with some kind of car polish. Shiny but not too shiny just the way I like it. The pics are of a wet board so It is not that shiny. I also do landscaping and yard work.
