AKU Shaper Printing Outline

Trying to print an outline of my AKU shaper file and getting all kinds of crazy print outs that aren’t an acurate outline.  Does anyone have a solution or a way to print a full board outline from a normal 8 1/2 x 11 printer?  Anybody use a print service that will do this and mail back?

Im sure any print firm would post you a full size sheet…however… with Adobe Illustrator you could easly import a PDF on to a worksheet with the virtual height and width or ur outine…then just print to multiple pages and stick together…one can eaily find AI for free on the net if one was so inclined.

Gilberj, If you have all the dimensions, why not simply draw it out by hand? You will need a hard template anyway.

^ ditto.

Making a template is really good practice for the shaping to come.

m8, fwiw, I just print on A4 paper and stick it together … I’m not trying to shape from it though, just using it for comparison …

What I’ve found is it prints in reverse order, so looks weird, but when layed out it falls into “shape” … and, I’ve needed to remove all margins from the print set up, or used “landscape” layout on others …

Good program though … especially for a novice like me.

Use boardcad instead. The printing code there is a few notches better, making it easier to stitch it together. And you can print a spin template.

Totally agree. Switch to boardcad. Plus when you print the outline on multiple sheets of paper, it prints gridlines, so you can match them up to make sure your outline stays true.[img_assist|nid=1069195|title=boardcad printout|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=472|height=625]

I had a  similiar problem, when i went to print the outline it was too wide for normal 8 1/2" x 11" so i switched to legal paper 8 1/2" x 14" which did the trick.

I draw in Aku but switch to Boardcad to print.  Print on legal paper with the grid to line things up.

I assemble the pages together by taking a long piece of butcher paper, folding it lengthwise and lining the stringerline on the template pages along the crease.  I lightly spritz the paper beforehand with some spray adhesive and use that to tack the sheets down.    After cutting I end up with a 1-piece full sized template; and yes, that’s what I use to template the board.  I may draw funky lines, but my templates are symmetrical.

If you really have to print out a paper outline then just take the outline and drop it into Adobe Illustrator. So many people have used that program over the years to make outlines.

anyone have a working boardcad .exe or link?? not working for me :frowning:

Listen to Tblank and Mike D... they both drive really cool cars and pull all the hottest chicks.

Besides that, I do it the same way and it works for me... I drive a POS tho so take it with a grain of salt

Yeah the only drawback to totally cool software. BoardCad usually wins the print heats though. Grids rock! Chicks too. xo

Can you please post a working download link to the boardcad program? I checked the links via their site and they are not downloading. is it just my computer or is it not working?

THanks!!!

HaH!!!  ChrisP, Yer just jealous of my Betty and the '71 Gremlin. Still hauls a$$ and carries any board I strap to her.

That goes for both Betty and the sweet ride. (sometimes Betty aint so sweet.)

=D hahaha

You need to have java installed and run the above java webstart file. If you’re still having problems just PM me.

thank you very much!

I have printed outlines via AKU in the past - here’s what has worked for me: After completing your outline, export to another java program called HollowBoard Template Maker. There is an option to export from there as a fullsize PDF half-board  template. Throw it on a flash drive and take it to kinkos/fed ex/whatever, banner print it…cheap and absolutely perfect. Much faster than taping things together. I’ve done about 5 different templates this way.

I’m willing to bet you that by the time you have driven to kinkos or whatever I have the A4 sheets for a spin template glued on the template material(As long as kinko is not your next door neighbour). I think I will have to make a little video tutorial just to prove it. Glad The HollowBoard Template Maker is back up and running, last time I checked it was broken
