I’ve spent some time searching/reading previous threads regarding printing an outline from the AkuShaper (formerly APS3000) software, but still can’t find anything regarding my issue…
When I use the ‘File’ → ‘Print’ → ‘Print Outline Full Sized’ feature to print my 5’6" fish outline (with page margin’s set to zero), I end up with a 6 sheets of paper with the outline for the tail and three quarters of the board, but then an additional 8 pieces of paper which are blank. The front quarter and nose of the board are missing. I’m aware that some of the blank pages are for the middle of the board, but why would the nose of the board be missing? Am I somehow supposed to align/justify the drawing along some side or line before printing?
BTW, I’m using the software on PC and using a Xerox printer (though I also tried on HP and same thing happened).
ya, i hear ya. it seems like it should work out, but not all of the pages have the outline going the complete length of the page. One sheet has a line that exits out the side of the page a few inches up. i might just have pieced it together wrong, and i tried a few different combinations. i suppose i should grab the pages out of the trash, uncrumple them, and try again.
The software will choose the best alignment, if the outline will fit the width of the paper it will use this, if not it will use the height. If it will not fit the height, it will try two sheet using the width, if this is not enough it will try two pages in height. If you need 40" plus wide boards, I’m not quite sure. Never tried it. But you can safely leave the alignment alone.
KC, I think you should just print it again. It’s kinda weird the first time you see it come out, but I bet the pieces are all there. The piece you say had the line going off the side sounds just like the nose, in my experience.
Set all the line pieces down along a wall, with the line closest (EDIT: sorry–with the curve apex toward the wall) to the wall–set a blank piece lined up in front of every one to represent the rest of the half-deck–the nose piece and the tail piece should line up with that row. Maybe the straight tail line on that template dropped off the edge if you set the margins to 0. Try .25" as a margin
If not work, take a picture of the pieces and post it using photobucket.com if you can.
well, it seems that changing the margins to zero was the problem. when i tried printing with no change to margins, it worked just fine. i also downloaded a virtual printer (something haavard uses) to print the outline to .pdf and/or .jpg. the outline comes out fine, and prints fine as long as i don’t mess with the margins.
leave it to a newbie like me to over-work/think a problem. sheesh!
Can I download Aku shaper now and have it work plain and simple?
That sounds more sarcastic than it's meant-it's just I got APS at Xmas time but my computer was playing up n' I couldn't get any joy from APS.Finally got the pooter fixed n' all hell broke loose back at base.
Everything’s fine now is it ? I’ve been lookin forward to having some fun on the drawing board.
Well, aku is not going to hijack your computer or anything like that. It’s more of a problem for the machine owners. The new version of Aku encrypts the files so the files may no longer be used with the old APS version or Shape3D, so you may not be able to have the files cut on a machine depending on what software the machine owner is using. However there is a small program that will decrypt, so all may be good in the end.
I’ve used it mainly for testing as I don’t want to print 20 sheet of paper every time I need to test something. I use ned image printer as it’s the one that works most consistantly for me. IMHO most of the virtual printers are crap, or rather they work poorly together with java printing. If you make a large custom sized paper the paper size is not reported correctly to java printing. I’ve used pdf995 with some success though.
