AL MERRICK BLACK BEAUTY

HEY GUYS HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS, I SURFED MEXICO LAST SUMMER, (SALADITA, THE RANCH AND TRONCONES) BOARD I SURFED WAS A 6’6 ROUND PIN, WITH WAVES AT LEAST HEAD HIGH ON ANY GIVEN DAY. I WAS THINKING OF GETTING A 6’4 SHAPED FOR ME WITH THE BLACK BEAUTY OUTLINE BEING 185 LBS. I WENT WITH 6’4 12.5-20-14.5-2.60, SHOULD I STAY WITH A TRUE BLACK BEAUTY OUTLINE WITH THE PIN TAIL OR WOULD I BE BETTER OFF WITH A ROUND TAIL FOR THE WAVES OVER IN MEX. SURFING MOSTLY POINT BREAKS AND A FEW BEACH BREAKS-

If you like rounded pin, why make it a square tail?

Only you knows what you like…

First off stop SHOUTING! Go with a rounded pin. From what I have seen the Black Beauty is more about the foil and the rails than the generic outline.

at Saladita you will most likely need a longboard.

Howzit joshm, I’ve surfed all 3 of those spots, which did you like the best. Aloha,Kokua

I WOULD SAY RIGHT HERE!!! YOU KNOW WHERE IT AT!!

ALSO HERES TRONCONES

ANOTHER OF THE RANCH

capital letters = “shouting” , in computer world , apparently . I think that’s why people tell you to “stop shouting” , maybe . [But then again … if maybe you’re deaf , then people may need to know that , so we can type louder for you , eh ?]

That’s a nice longish-looking left , anyway , Josh . And the right off it , in one of your shots , doesn’t look too shabby either !

I would LOVE to see Tom surf that on the mentioned board , and be there to video it .

cheers mate !

I like that it breaks further out. all of those look fun.

…josh.

i’d be riding my single fin.

I have a 6’3" black beauty and it really performs well in juicy surf; I won’t bother taking it out unless it is at least 1’ overhead.

It’s most likely a matter of personal preference, but I always felt like a rounded pin surfed a bit cleaner in good waves - so I’d stick with it rather than the square tail.

Howzit joshm, When we surfed the Ranch we had to take a boat because there wasn't land access at the time so I never got that view, but had great sessions there. We spent most of our time at Saladita and had it to ourselves every day except one day. That was before there were sleeping quarters to rent so we stayed at Playa Khandahar which was owned by some friends at the time and nobody else was staying there either. Aloha,Kokua
